West Sussex might seem the ideal location to get away from it all, but a quick glance at the events lined up for summer 2016 might quickly convince you to join the crowds for a taste of arts and entertainment. Whether your thing is food, music, antiques or the arts, there are some cracking 2016 Sussex festivals and gatherings to look forward to. Here are a selection well worth a look, all within easy reach of Park House, complete with dates, details and highlights:
Festival of Chichester 2016 (Various venues 18th June – 17th July 2016)
A staggering two hundred-and-fifty or so events make up this huge gathering of all things creative and cultural. No matter how mainstream or niche your tastes are, there is truly something for everyone in the line up too, whether your idea of entertainment is a classical concert, a rock gig or honing your own skills with a range of talks and workshops. It is worth a look at the official site and booking your stay for the show-stopping series of classical concerts alone, including Russian pianist, Victor Ryabchikov, live at Chichester Cathedral. A five-day festival of fun, fashion and excitement, it is one of the unmissable dates in the year for any true race fan and 2016 will be no exception. Petworth Park Antiques and Fine Art Fair 2016 (6 Aug at Petworth House GU28 9LR)

Well represented from members of the British Antique Dealers’ Association and set in the classic grounds of Petworth House, this is the place to find that rare item. Browse to your heart’s content and meet fellow enthusiasts, whether you collect antique jewellery or fine art. See the official website HERE.
Madhurst 2016 (20-29th August, various venues in Midhurst GU29)
Vintage & Steam Show (20th & 21st August, Weald and Downland Open Air Museum)
Bognor Birdman 2016 (3-4th September)
Madcap, low-flying fun in Bognor (Image: Bognor Birdman)
Addressing man’s timeless desire to fly (or just predictably fall into the sea?), this annual event is as loved by spectators as it is by Sussex charities. With a different cast of crazy contestants each year, the premise is simply to challenge participants to take to the skies off the end of the local pier, completely unaided by technology. It may have been copied around the globe and even televised, but there is only one original British Birdman event and it is still found in Bognor Regis. See the official site HERE.
